Highland Lakes Offering & Prayer

HLBC Offering & Prayer

Goal: $50,000

75% Camp Expenses. As the number of students and children increase each summer, we realize that some campers have to be turned away. No one should be told camp is “sold out.” Therefore, we are striving to build more facilities to house more campers, updating current facilities, and planning for growth. God is moving at Highland Lakes.

25% Camp Scholarships. If camp is our mission field, Highland Lakes must have the ability to offer the camp experience to people of all financial situations. We cannot turn people away from the Gospel message and camp experience simply due to their lack of funds.  Jesus says in Matthew, “Let the little children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.”

WEEK OF PRAYER FOR HIGHLAND LAKES
May 5-12, 2013

Highland Lakes is a place of retreat for the young and the old, men and women, pastors and laypeople, the saved and the lost. During the week of prayer, focus each day for a particular group to be enveloped in God’s presence at Highland Lakes Baptist Camp. Thank you for your prayers for your camp!

Devote yourselves to prayer; stay alert in it with thanksgiving. Colossians 4:2

Day 1

Children

Then he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on each of them, and blessed them.

Mark 10:16

Hundreds of children come to Highland Lakes each year as part of a summer camp or church retreat or day camp. Childhood is the age when people are most open to the Gospel. These are the next generation of God-followers. Thank the Lord for the many children who became Christians at camp last year. Pray this year many children who need Jesus will be drawn to camp, that saved children will invite lost friends to come with them. Pray for God to provide the finances and the space for every child who is prompted by Him to come.

Day 2

Fathers and Sons

And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers…

Malachi 4:6a

Boys bring fathers, grandfathers, uncles and other male mentors to Highland Lakes for fire-building, fishing, canoeing and worshipping God. It is moving to watch men pray and sing alongside their son or nephew or grandson. But hearts are truly touched to hear a young boy pray for his mentor. There is a bond that grows strong and sure between men and their sons at Highland Lakes. Pray for God to turn their hearts toward one another. Ask God to show men how to raise the next generation, to teach them to pray and to love God with all their hearts. Ask God to bless this special relationship in the lives of the boys and fathers in your church and when they come to camp.

Day 3

Church Planters

… pray also for us that God may open a door to us for the message, to speak the mystery of the Messiah… so that I may reveal it as I am required to speak.

Colossians 4:3-4

Highland Lakes hosts many conferences and training sessions throughout the year, but perhaps the most critical one involves the training of new church planters. These men and their wives, as well as members of their soon-to-be church, come for a three-day training, prayer and seeking God’s unique design for the church He is calling them to start. Ask God to bless the relationships among planters formed during these sessions. Pray each planter couple will hear God’s voice directing clearly and that the calling He has given them will remain strong as they sow and water the seed for the house of prayer God will grow.

Day 4

Pastors

The elders who are good leaders should be considered worthy of an ample honorarium, especially those who work hard at preaching and teaching.

1 Timothy 5:17

Like Jesus, every pastor needs to get away periodically to pray and seek the Lord. Highland Lakes provides two free nights every year to pastors and their families to help them do just that. Pastor retreats and conferences also are available for the encouragement and training of our Hoosier shepherds. Pray for your pastor today and the other pastors in your association to be refreshed by the Spirit of God, that they will be men of courage, fearing God and loving His people. Encourage your pastor to take time to get alone with God at Highland Lakes this year.

Day 5

College Students

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who doesn't need to be ashamed, correctly teaching the word of truth.

2 Timothy 2:15

College is a time of learning, searching and focusing on what to do with the rest of your life. Students need a place to see the majesty of God’s creation, to be away from books and computers and rest in the presence of the God who loves them beyond their wildest imaginings. They find that at the camp’s Prayer Ridge, in the chapel or watching a deer and her fawn by the lake. College students also come in the summer months as counselors and camp staff. They are essential to the ministry and the mission of Highland Lakes.  Pray for all of these college students. Ask the Lord to make them Kingdom builders, strong church members, political and business leaders approved to God, leading people to Him with joy and courage.

Day 6

Couples

“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the   church. However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

Ephesians 5:31-33

Will you help Highland Lakes reach out to husbands and wives? With only a small amount of suitable housing for this demographic, Highland Lakes is building to increase the number of rooms for couples and families. Ask the Lord to provide the funds needed to build a ten-room hotel building and for laborers to complete the current retreat center that is under construction. Pray also for the marriages in your church and across our state to be true examples of the relationship between Christ and His church.

Day 7

Youth

No one should despise your youth; instead, you should be an example to the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.

1 Timothy 4:12

Between cellphones, earphones and computers teenagers inhabit a world that is never silent, always grasping for their attention. Highland Lakes gives them opportunity to stop and listen to God whisper into their hearts and lives. Every year around 100 teenagers give their lives to Christ at camp. Many are also called into the mission field. Ask God to bring more lost teens to camp, to soften hearts, so the seed of the Gospel would take root in their lives. Plead with the Lord to use Highland Lakes Baptist Camp to call out church planters, missionaries, pastors and church leaders from among our youth, so that His church would grow and flourish in Indiana and around the world.

Day 8

Mothers and Daughters

Truly I am your servant, Lord; I serve you just as my mother did…

Ps 116:16

There is something unique about the relationship between a mother and her daughter. A spiritual heritage that transcends cultures is often passed from one generation to the next through this bond. Spending time together as mom and daughter away from distractions to focus on God together can be a supreme blessing that lingers even beyond the days of camp. In the car on the way home from last year’s mother/daughter event, a mom got to lead her daughter to Christ! Pray for the mothers and daughters in your church to serve the Lord together and that each would pass their love of God to succeeding generations.
