Purpose Statement

The Church / Leader Development Team exists to Connect, Consult and Coach churches in accomplishing the Acts 1:8 challenge.

Most people go through life making regular appointments at the doctors to get a check up and make sure that things are physically operating correctly. This is a great principle to follow. It makes sure that you are in “good health.” The body of Christ needs to do the same. It too needs a regular check up to make sure that things are healthy. The SCBI Church / Leader Development Team can help you do that. You will find a number of categories below that show you how we can help you check your health and to provide the training, equipping and consulting to help you.

Our goal

To listen to what you believe God is telling you about your church.
To help you assess the health of your church.
To help you develop strategies to lead to a stronger, healthier church in the areas of prayer, evangelism, discipleship, groups and leadership development.
To help you raise up and develop leaders.
To help you develop a path to disciple your people.
To help you impact lostness in your community.

baptismWhat is Church Planting?

Church planting is the Biblical process of establishing Bible-believing congregations in un-churched or under-churched communities. The book of Acts describes this as gathering new believers into vibrant communities of faith. They share life together through worship, ministry, fellowship, discipleship and evangelizing the lost. Church planting is about multiplication for the Kingdom of God. It is God-centered, God-dependent and requires prayer, spiritual understanding, engaging the culture, sharing the gospel, and developing leaders.

Why Plant New Churches?

People need Jesus and are looking for hope in a troubled world. They may not respond to invitations from an established church. Church planting is one of the most effective evangelistic strategies for reaching unchurched people. New church plants often target people who do not have a Bible-based church in their location or in their language. They find people who have an affinity either in interests or cultural identity.

Mission Statement: The mission of the State Convention of Baptists in Indiana Disaster Relief, in cooperation with the Southern Baptist North American Mission Board Disaster Relief, is to train, credential and prepare Born Again Believers to respond in a lovingly Christ-like manner to people at home and around the world affected by a disastrous event and support their volunteer efforts by providing administrative, organizational or other resources necessary for their ministry to be successful.

The philosophy behind Southern Baptist disaster relief efforts has been summed up in the phrase, "A cup of cold water in Jesus name." We are following the example of Jesus of Nazareth when He fed the 5,000 and the 4,000, and His teachings in the parable of the Good Samaritan and Matthew 25:32-46.

Southern Baptist disaster relief is Christian love in action, meeting urgent needs of hurting humanity in crisis situations. Disaster response is meeting those needs with loving care and timely response as James 2:15-16 instructs us. There is no hidden agenda or ulterior motive.

"Then He said to them, 'Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation.'" Mark 16:15

"But how can they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how can they believe without hearing about Him? And how can they hear without a preacher? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: How welcome are the feet of those who announce the gospel of good things!"  Romans 10:14-15

SCBI's Evangelism Ministry helps to provide churches with trainings and resources to reach people with the Gospel.

"Everything rises and falls on leadership"

This is more than a cliche to us at SCBI.  We believe that we are all on a leadership development path.  Where are you in your leadership journey?  We would love to help you discover your path and walk with you on the journey. Some of the ways that we do this is through personal relationships that we desire to develop with fellow leaders.  We also engage in training and equipping and coaching to help leaders move forward in God's plan for their life and for the life of His church.

Leadership Development Process

P – personal development phase
I – interpersonal development phase
T – team development phase
O – organizational development phase

The SCBI Church / Leader Development team has numerous tools in its tool belt to help you raise the bar as you develop leaders in your ministry. We can help you in the areas listed in the PITO model mentioned above.

We have a menu of training possibilities for you to consider.

Take advantage of the Leader Lab Process!

Step One:

Associational Leader Labs - many of our associations are seeing the benefit of meeting on a monthly basis to discuss what's working and how we can work together to make our ministries more effective.

Step Two:

SCBI annual Leader Labs - these training workshops are provided two times per year and will deal with leaderhip issues that can improve your leadership skills.

Step Three:

HILL Retreat (High Impact Leader Lab) - this annual retreat is for senior pastors. It is designed to guide them through a learning and interactive experience where each participant will develop their own Personal Leadership Development Plan. This plan is monitored through 12 months of follow-up coaching.

Contact your SCBI Church / Leader Development office to learn more about each of these levels of growth: email Steve McNeil or call 317-481-2400 ext 229 or 228.

Ministering to people at their point of need is often asociated with various stages of life. See the pages below to find appropriate ministry resources.

It is common to acknowledge the importance of prayer in our ministry. Yet many times, like the disciples, we wonder how to pray. SCBI's Prayer Ministry seeks to equip and encourage churches to become biblical houses of prayer and believers to grow deeper in their prayer lives.
